"We who lived in concentration camps can remember the men who
walked through the huts comforting others, giving away their last piece
of bread. They may have been few in number, but they offer sufficient
proof that everything can be taken away from a man but one thing: the
last human freedoms -- to choose one's attitude in any given set of
circumstances, to choose one's own way." --Viktor Frankl, Man's Search
for Meaning
Springtime is a time of rebirth, reawakening and new beginnings. Indeed,
the glory of nature is bursting forth all around us. As I walk around my
neighborhood, the vibrant gardens teem with life and colorful flowers
abound. In springtime, nature's bounty calls us out to delight in its
magnificent abundance.
It all appears so effortless. The awesome power of nature to regenerate
itself each spring seems unstoppable. What a powerful force of creation
is at work!
The truth is we all have this creative source within us and available to
us at all times. We have the ability to co-create our experience by
tapping into and aligning with the forces of nature, the laws of the
Universe. We can create love, peace, beauty, vitality, joy and delight as
our experience. It's a matter of focus and intention.
Even in the most trying circumstances, we have a choice where we place
our attention and how we respond. We can choose reactivity, aggression,
or victimization or we can choose responsibility, equanimity, peace and
self-empowerment. How we relate to an issue, and to ourselves as we go
through the issue, is the issue.
When we realize the creative power we have within us, it makes sense to
become more intentional about how we approach our lives. The good news
(and the bad news perhaps!) is that we have participated in the creation
of what's now present in our lives. What we're currently experiencing has
been influenced by our past thoughts, beliefs and actions -- the seeds we
(consciously or unconsciously) planted in the past are now coming to
fruition.
Thoughts and beliefs are creative. What you choose to focus on is what
you'll get more of in your life. If you choose to live in gratitude,
you'll maximize your chances of having more to be grateful for. If you
choose to focus on lack and limitation, you'll maximize your chances of
experiencing just that.
Of course, there's no guarantee that we'll get what we want. This is a
co-creation after all! The Universe and the forces in play are in service
to our highest good, and sometimes our highest good is different from
what we think we want.
So when we don't get what we've set our mind to, it's not about being a
"bad manifester"; it simply means the timing's not right, or
something more in line with our highest good is on the way. Either way,
we enhance our emotional well-being and maximize our chances of success
by placing our attention on our positive intention.
Over the next month, I invite you to become aware of where you place your
focus and attention. Are you planting seeds of joy, love, gratitude,
optimism, and abundance? Or are you planting seeds of fear, lack,
limitation and victimization?
Next month, we'll look at some concrete steps you can take to powerfully
focus your attention on what you'd truly like to cultivate in the garden
of your life.
Happy planting!
