Be The Change

"We must be the change we wish to see in the world." Mahatma Gandhi

I am sending my newsletter this month at the moment when millions of people around the world, including myself, are joining in meditation and prayer for the healing of our planet (11:11am Greenwich Mean Time, July 17, 2007). In California, this is 4:11am!

Shelley Yates, a Canadian mother, is the inspiration for this event called Fire the Grid. Many of you may have received information about it through the Internet. (Her website is www.firethegrid.org.) She went through a near death experience and powerful spiritual awakening and was moved to spearhead this event and future projects to assist the healing of the planet.

Shelley is encouraging people around the world to sit at this time, alone or with others, to reflect on the beauty of the planet we all share, to appreciate everything we have and all that we are, and to envision a better future for us all. It's meant to be a time of upliftment for both our individual and collective energetic fields and then for sending that energy to the core of the earth in service to her healing.

What a beautiful vision! The power of the collective consciousness is potentially huge. There are a number of scientific studies documenting the powerful impact of prayer on individual healing. Why not extend that to our living Earth?

And, when this particular moment in time has passed, we can extend this kind of practice into our daily lives. As you continually uplift your own consciousness, you make a significant contribution to the consciousness of the whole. It is an act of loving service.

One of the key ways to do this is to discover what brings you joy, give yourself permission to do or be whatever that is, and then give thanks for the opportunity.

Another way is to practice random acts of kindness for no other reason than to express the best of your humanity. This might be feeding someone else's expired parking meter, offering a blanket to a homeless person, or giving assistance to an elderly person as she attempts to carry her bags home from the market. You're looking out for your "tribe", recognizing that as we care for others we are truly caring for ourselves.

Other ways include: meditating; walking in nature; listening to music that inspires you; cutting down on the time you spend ingesting the news and other media; coloring your world with shades that uplift you and surrounding yourself with objects of beauty and meaning in your home or work place; gracing your environment with fresh flowers; etc.

This month, if you don't already know, I invite you to spend time discovering what brings you joy. If you do know, be sure to give yourself permission to experience it regularly and give thanks for the blessings it brings to your life.

Here's to a more joyful and loving future for us all!
