"It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly
secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no
longer meaningful. There is more security in the adventurous and
exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is
power."
-Margaret Stortz
For many of us, change or the thought of change can be daunting. We do
what we do (or don't do) because up to now those behaviors have worked
for us. As we enter midlife, however, we may start to feel that our old
patterns and behaviors no longer align with who we are becoming. We feel
an inner urging to try something different.
The beliefs we hold and the emotions we feel influence what we attract
into our lives. So there are attitudes we can cultivate and specific steps
we can take to help prepare us for the changes we would like to create.
Helpful attitudes include:
·Believing that change is possible, that the current circumstances in
your life can change.
·Having more passion and enthusiasm for your intended change than
emotional attachment to your current circumstances.
·Being kind to yourself and accepting where you are in the process. It
can take time for your intended change to show up. Never judge yourself
for where you are now.
·Being willing to be uncomfortable while the change is in process. Change
can mean stepping into the unfamiliar, but in time, the new way of being
will become second nature.
Steps for successfully creating change in your life:
1) Create clear, positive intentions about what you would like to
transform in your life. Our intentions are one of our most powerful
change agents. Having clear intentions supports us in directing our focus
towards what is most important to us.
2) Visualize yourself as if the change is already happening in present
time. See your vision in as much detail as possible and, most
importantly, really feel into what it would feel like to achieve
your end result.
3) Express your gratitude in advance for the realization of your goal.
4) Let it go, trust the process and don't worry about how it will
actually come about. Acknowledge the co-creative nature of the process by
allowing that there might be something more in line with your highest
good that will come to you.
5) Take small, consistent steps in the direction of your goals. The
Universe will meet you at the point of your action.
6) Maintain a learning orientation to life, knowing that everything that
happens to you is an opportunity for growth and greater awareness.
"Life responds to us in the way we approach It. We should choose
that which we wish to embody and by constant attention to it take on all
its characteristics. Let us choose to be identified with power, with love
and beauty, with peace and happiness. Let us identify ourselves with
abundance and success."
- Ernest Holmes, The Science of Mind
